Backstory

Elementary School

Christian was born and raised in Farmingville, New York which is on Long Island. He has always been one to experience new things and explore his interests. From a young age, Christian participated in gymnastics, baseball, and basketball, but he always had a place for arts and crafts. When it came to his fifth grade yearbook, he wrote that he’d love to be a cartoonist when he grew up because he could create anything and shape an entire world of his own. He also learned at the end of elementary school that he had a knack for singing and wanted to pursue it further in middle school.

Middle School

Although he was intending to focus more on music, Christian also played football leading into middle school, however,  he didn’t enjoy it as much as he thought he might and left. When school started, Christian did what he intended to do and pursued singing throughout middle school. He joined choir and the school drama club. In his first year, Christian managed to get a solo in the show. As everyone may realize, middle school is a weird place and Christian’s “social circle” began to be established. By the end of middle school, his voice was going through a quick change and his singing was affected. He had a solo for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), but did so poorly due to frequent register changes that he was never given a score. In high school, Christian had no interest in further pursuing music.

High School

In high school, he participated in FIRST Robotics for his freshman and sophomore year, but he realized that the organization at his school had politics that he was not interested in. He quit, got a crazy haircut, changed his style and joined track. In junior year, he was in cross country, swimming, track, student government, chess club, model united nations, and strategy and tactics club. He began to hangout less with the same people and more with new people. This allowed him to gather many social perspectives and relate more to many people. When he was meeting many new people, he came to the realization he wanted to be an engineer. To be more exact, he wanted to be an aviation and aerospace mechanical engineer. He then questioned this idea his senior year when his interest in arts and music reemerged.

Today

When Christian got to RIT, he was already contemplating his major as Engineering Exploration, but he was uncertain as to what he’ll change to. After his first semester of exploring, he switched to Marketing. He learned so much about business that he was unaware of before and it interested him. He loved strategies, business plans, economics, and even accounting interested him. Overtime, he came to the conclusion he wanted to switch to New Media Marketing. Then, since the curriculum taught very little about resources and pricing, he chose to double major in Economics. With those, he can gather a deep understanding of resources and people while he works on his start-up: Canopy.

Jane Brown (Young Mogul)

NEW MEDIA QUEEN

Hi! My name is Jane Brown. I’m a senior New Media Marketing student at RIT. I have minors in Advertising & PR and International Business. I’m currently the Marketing Assistant for RIT’s Department of Languages and Cultures where I’m creating a campaign for a new major. I’ve also done two digital marketing internships at a top agency in Syracuse.

Outside of classes and work, I love traveling and music. I studied abroad at RIT Croatia during the Spring 2017 semester. I became a Global Ambassador after returning to the US to help other students learn about international opportunities. I’ve also been in an all-female A Cappella group, RIT Vocal Accent, for four years and am serving as President. Additionally, I’ve been a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, since freshman year. Some of my favorite classes have included Wines of the World, Electronic Music Production, and Social Media Marketing!

Michael Titcomb

Hi! I’m Michael Titcomb.

I’m a graduating New Media Marketing Major with an immersion in Music.  I’ve loved my time at RIT and the fact that I am leaving is bittersweet.  I’ve gained so many great skills here in my classes.  Through those classes and my co-op experience I have transformed myself from a lazy freshman to a motivated candidate for the job market.  In my final semester at RIT, I am especially excited to learn more about SEO during this class.

Work Experience

In January 2016 I landed an exciting co-op opportunity with Eastman Kodak Company here in Rochester.  What started as a summer job turned into a 2-year long relationship in which I worked both full-time, and part-time while taking classes.  My classes somewhat prepared me for the job, but I feel that I learned even more about marketing and simply working in a marketing position while I was there.

More recently and currently, I am a contracted WordPress developer for the local Rochester non-profit, Be UninTIMidated.  Be UninTIMidated is dedicated to helping people with rare forms of appendix cancer, and raising awareness to gain ground for treatment.

More About Me & Links

Though currently based in Rochester, my home is in Burlington, Vermont, where I was born.  Being from Vermont I love snowboarding, hiking, and rock climbing, among other outdoor activities.  I played in the Vermont Youth Orchestra for 5 years, which helped grow my love for music.  I love to write and produce music, and I have grown these skills through some courses at RIT such as Electronic Music Production.  I had the pleasure of helping write and record music with a fellow RIT student for his video game, Apollon Blue.  A few select pieces from the game can be listened to at the link below.

Apollon Jazz – My first try at making jazz music.  I was very proud with the result and this ended up being the theme for the game.

Menu Music Playable – the menu music for Apollon Blue, just a piano tune

Shayne Mogilski, Please Hire Me

Hello

My name is Shayne Mogilski, and I’m currently a third year New Media Marketing student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I’ve studied hard in classes to understand the material, and not just remember it. Classes such as Internet Marketing have really helped me understand New Media Marketing. RIT has also helped me grow with chances to lead. This includes being president of RIT’s Sports Enthusiasts Club, along with responsibilities for RIT’s Phi Sigma Pi chapter. Through the good and bad times, I would have to say that RIT has changed my life significantly in the last 3 years and I’m almost ready to reach the next chapter in my career. Speaking of which…

Business Experience

Over the past few years, I’ve gained business experience in many different forms. While I was a senior in high school, I created a business plan for Traverse Puzzle HuntsTraverse Puzzle Hunts was designed to plan unique and well-detailed events at a low price. I’ve also been responsible for the marketing plan for a potential public electronic service known as TechHub. This business plan won the first annual best business plan competition at RIT, which was an incredible accomplishment in only my first year. Along with contributing to multiple other business plans, I’ve also worked as a New Media Specialist for Legacy Financial Planning. Legacy Financial Planning is respected throughout the financial community nationwide and are run by two of the most successful financial planners in the industry. I hope to only increase my experience with a paid Co-Op opportunity in the near future.

Matthew Missert

Introduction:
Hi! the name’s Matt. I’m 4th year undergrad student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I’m finishing up my degree in New Media Marketing (fancy title for marketing with a technical focus) paired with a dual minor in International Business and Communications.
I’ve spent time working in the B2B field, but most of my education has centered around the consumer market. With the work I’ve done through RIT these past 4 years, I’m aiming towards working in the international marketing industry, working to introduce products and experiences to new emerging markets around the globe. (or across the world, if you know… flat earth and all.)

I was born in Buffalo NY and briefly lived in Hamburg NY before moving to Laconia New Hampshire around 2001. I came to RIT largely for the co-op program.
Growing up in New Hampshire, I’ve adopted a strong passion for being outdoors. You can find me hiking and fishing in the summer and snowboarding or skating in the winter.

My Future:

I’ve been struggling with answering the “what are your plans after graduation” question for some time now and to be honest I still don’t know what I want to do. I plan on moving back to New England, closer to Boston in order to join the professional world, but at the same time I’m drawn to the idea of packing a bag and traveling as much as I can before my student loan payments start to kick in.

Get to Know Me!

I’m on all social media platforms, and have my own website too!

I’ve always been a (fairly) organized person and have loved using my planner, and about a year and a half ago I turned my hobbies of graphic design and planning into a small business! I design printable planner stickers for college students and am very proud to have almost 5,000 sales in the year and a half that my store has been open. This hobby of mine has taught me so much about Adobe products, social media marketing, engaging customers, and expense tracking.

Kysa – Social Media Specialist

All About Kysa

Portrait of Kysa W
Kysa Willemsen – New Media Marketing

From a small town in Ontario, Canada named Forest, Kysa Willemsen is in her fourth year at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She is studying new media marketing with a minor in advertising and public relations. She will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in May of 2018.

Life as a Student Athlete

During Kysa’s first semester at RIT she decided to try a new sport. That is when she became a member of the RIT crew team. Since joining she has been a rower and coxswain for both the women’s and men’s teams. Practices at 6AM each morning have helped her stay on top of her studies. Even finding ways to prioritize time management when she is travelling for races. Balancing school, sports, work and a social life has proven to be difficult but she wouldn’t want to change this experience for the world. Overall, being a student athlete has taught Kysa control, motivation and flexibility.

Studying Abroad

Kysa at Big Ben
Kysa Abroad in London, England

In the spring of her third year at RIT Kysa studied in London, England at the London South Bank University. She embraced opportunities to travel and learn from cultures all around Europe. Her favourite was to enjoy locations that were off the beaten path rather than tourist-targeted locations. Unlike the American school system, academics in England were set up differently. Each course was weighted mostly on one exam or paper therefore it highlighted the fact that second-chances aren’t always available.

In the “Real World”

Since 2014 Kysa has gained experience with Sunripe Freshmarket. She helped introduce social media and online communications into the company’s marketing. In December of 2014 she ran the company’s first online promotion. This was for a buy 1 get 1 free event they hold yearly. This event was only advertised with traditional marketing platforms prior to that year. During the event that December Sunripe saw a large increase in year over year sales at a fraction of their previous marketing costs. Today, Kysa continues to manage all of Sunripe’s online communications through Facebook, Instagram, website and email. This includes promoting products and events, answering consumer questions, creating content and more. All from anywhere in the world.

A Montanan: Megan Freeman

Megan FreemanWho is Megan Freeman?

Hi there! Looks you don’t know who I am. Great opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Megan Freeman and I am not related to Morgan Freeman! I am currently a fourth year student at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) studying Management Information Systems (MIS) with a minor in Digital Business and an immersion in Legal Studies. I’m from Missoula, Montana. About three days of a drive! It’s a long ways! I will be graduating in Spring 2018! So exciting!

Interests/Hobbies:

Considering the fact I’m from the west, I love to hike, mountain bike, snowboard, horseback riding, and swimming. I’m a very outdoorsy person but I also like to play board and video games with friends. I haven’t explored enough of Rochester to find the best places for outdoor activities. The most favorite that I have been to is Letchworth Park.

Clubs/Activities:

I am involved with the Tri Sigma Sorority, RIT Equestrian Team, and Women in Business Club. For the Equestrian Team, I am the Western Team Captain for just about three and a half years now. Competitions I do are both in Western and English in NY and I will be going to regionals this year! I am also involved in many philanthropy events for Tri Sigma like Sign Idol and Relay for Life.

 Why MIS?

The concept of working with computers in the business aspect is what drew me to the major. The major offered several coding classes that I was really interested in taking like HTML, CSS, C#, Visual Studios. Computers are my thing! With this knowledge from learning in the MIS field, I hope to become a CEO or CMO of an well-known company or agency. If that doesn’t work out, I might try out for Law School and become a lawyer like my parents! Either way works!

That’s all I have for now! Check out my resume, Facebook, Linkedin pages so that I can pass and graduate on time! Also, please feel free to comment below with any questions or suggestions!

About

I am a content marketer and brand strategist graduating with a degree in Digital Marketing from Rochester Institute of Technology in May 2018. A balanced left and right-brain thinker, I am constantly testing, learning and optimizing, all while applying a refined creative edge.

As a content marketer, I am a proactive agent in the areas of search engine marketing, social media, branding, content strategy, and paid advertising, I consistently stay on top of trends in the world of content marketing with an intense personal interest in food and fashion culture.

I excel at writing compelling stories, employing empathy to understand audiences, and have a penchant for all things analytical. I am adept at leading, executing and tracking the performance of demand generation campaigns across various social platforms.

Story

Hailing from Philly, I was raised by a kind, hardworking German father and a no-nonsense, but incredibly selfless, Chinese mother from who I’ve absorbed both a driven and empathic mindset.

My focus as a professional, and as a person, stems from my love of community. If I’ve learned anything throughout my college career and work experience, it’s that one must be relentless and in constant pursuit of improvement, all while continually learning and growing. In this vein, I’ve taken on freelance work as a content marketer, becoming ingrained in the surrounding community and extending what I’ve learned in the classroom into the real world.

As the Program Director for WITR 89.7, an FM radio station serving the greater Rochester area, I work alongside a team of multi-talented DJs and producers to bring lesser known music to the community.

WITR 89.7 Apple Picking
Just some radio kids apple picking.

Most recently, I’ve been assisting AVVINO, a local, high-end, contemporary restaurant with their marketing, web presence and social media, redesigning their website and converting web traffic into dinner reservations. This was a business I loved from the first water glass I filled, to the last table I wiped down. I feel fortunate that I can apply my knowledge as a digital marketer to positively impact the lives of everyone working there.

Avvino
Avvino!

To find work in a setting that promotes constant collaboration and open communication is a goal of mine. In a place like that, I can focus on growing and leading. I can work harder, better, and feel good about it.

I am always on the lookout for additional freelance opportunities to help grow small businesses, individual brands, and everything in between.

I’m currently on the job hunt, searching for a full-time digital marketing position.

About My Hometown

I am from Beijing, China, a city that has more than 3000 years of history.I am a proud of being born and raised in Beijing. It’s a massive city with plenty of great things to do. There are six Unesco World Heritage Sites in this city alone. All of them have been established more than a thousand of years ago. It’s also a city that never sleeps, there are all different kinds of bars, cafés, night clubs, live shows which keep me busy every day and night.

One thing I miss the most about Beijing is the food.  I can find great food from all over the nation or even from all over the world in this one city.

I love that Beijing has different faces. In winter, the lakes freeze as icy winds whip south from beyond the Great Wall, carrying with them the echo of Manchu rule. Come summer, Beijing is all rolled-up t-shirts, icy beers and street-side lamb skewers. There are many words to describe it: filthy, beautiful, decadent, bustling, chaotic, idle, lovable.

From sprawling imperial gardens to cramped ‘hutong’ alleyways, Beijing pulses with vitality and contradiction.

If you are interested in knowing more about my hometown, here is a video introducing some fun spots in Beijing. Travel + Leisure Tour of Beijing

I am Vinny Alese?

Hi I’m Vinny Alese?
“If you know this picture is me, no need to read, just look at my stylish resume and perfect LinkedIn profile.” -Vinny Alese

If you don’t know me, kudos to you for clicking the link you adventurer you. Just this Spring I graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a B.S. in Business Administration. I decided to go on with school and enrolled in the RIT 4+1 MBA program. Meaning, if you click on the links (ResumeLinkedIn) I will pass my internet marketing class and graduate with my MBA in one year.

Originally from Long Island, I now live in Rochester just off Park Ave and commute to RIT and my part time job at REDCOM. I have absolutely no complaints about the area. There is always something to do or somewhere to go (if I’m not stuck at the kitchen table reading the third Harvard Business Review case of the day).

Grad Life

Speaking of cases, I never had to do a single one for undergrad. For my Geneseo friends, a case is pretty much what it sounds like- a nice long paper about a company that found itself in a bad situation. The cases typically end unresolved and we are tasked to use evidence from the case to determine the best course of action.

I have a love hate relationship with case studies. I love that they provide a real problem and an inside look at what was going on at a company. I also love that they make you find creative solutions and build up problem solving skills, but I hate that just about every class assigns two or three a week. There just isn’t enough daylight. Luckily, I figured out I only need about two hours of sleep, a 20 minute mid-day nap, and 24oz of coffee to function. I recommend researching alternative sleep cycles if you plan on going for your masters and work, I try to use a trimmed down version of the biphasic sleep cycle.

That’s it for now! Again, please check out my resume andLinkedIn page so I don’t fail! Also feel free to drop me a comment below on what you think about the resume and any suggestions you have.

The Story of Young Aspiring Donald Draper

My name is James Maxwell and this is my story,

As a fourth year student at Rochester Institute of Technology, I can definitely establish that my college career has been one heck of a ride. Creating tons of new relationships and memories that will carry on with me for a lifetime. Significantly expanding my knowledge of the business world and how various aspects of business operates. Solely to find my passion in New Media Marketing.

Marketing has always been a fascinating concept to me. I am always intrigued by being able to study and define critical segments within a specified market and effectively sell a product or service that will truly benefit them. Now integrating the immense world of the internet to that mix, and the possibilities are endless. Through devoted motivation I intend to utilize my digital skills and marketing knowledge to change the world of internet marketing, for the better.

Aside from trying to change the world, I have a strong love for cars. Since I was born I’ve been eating, sleeping, and breathing cars. Not literally of course, but intensive enough to where I can name every cars make, model, and engine inside a large parking lot. In addition to my passion in cars, I find movies and TV series enjoyable. More specifically pieces of art that reflect the essence of cinematic film making and incorporate the use of symbolism effectively.

Todd Skirving’s Student Athlete Profile

Hello Everyone,

ToddSkirving
RIT Men’s Hockey: Todd Skirving #17

My name is Todd Skirving and I would like to welcome you to my Search Engine and Marketing Analytics webpage through WordPress. I am a senior at the Rochester Institute of Technology  and this is my final capstone course left to take. In May 2017, I will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in New Media Marketing. I will also graduate with a Bachelor of Science minor degree in Public Relations and Advertising. I currently play hockey for the RIT Men’s Hockey team. We have had some success over the past few years, winning back-to-back championships in the Atlantic Hockey Conference. You can keep up to date with all the latest news and updates on the RIT Hockey page and you can also view my Player Profile there as well. As I close in on my final few months at RIT, I am looking forward to what my future holds. RIT has prepared me both mentally and physically for the real world and I cannot wait to get started.

Upon graduation, I plan to continue my hockey career at the pro level wherever that may be. I believe that I will get myself into coaching before I use the degree that RIT has provided for me. Hockey is my life needless to say, so when the time comes for me to hang up the skates, I would love to still be involved with hockey, whether that is coaching younger kids or players at the junior and pro level. It would be a great way to give back after all those who gave to me during my hockey career.

Speaking of giving back, this year I teamed up with Muddy’s Buddies. They are a non-profitable organization in Rochester, NY that seeks to improve the quality of life of children and their families who have been touched by cancer or other chronic diseases. RIT Sports Zone did a great piece on them early in the year so be sure to check it out.

I encourage everyone to visit the several links provided throughout the post and to connect with me on a few different social media platforms. It will be a great way to connect and stay in touch. It will also be beneficial for any possible job opportunities or references in the future. Thank you for checking out my page.
