My story so far

Born and brought up in the steel town of Jamshedpur, India, I moved to Mumbai after school to pursue my Bachelors in Economics from St. Xavier’s College. This was followed by a move to the United States to do a Masters in Human Resource Development from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2008.

On completing my master’s degree, I returned to India and joined our family business as the Head of Human Resource. It was very challenging being the only woman working in a team of over 300 employees. Having gained a couple of years of work experience and observing my Dad as an entrepreneur, when opportunity presented itself, I went ahead and became an entrepreneur myself.

Designclature – A partnership venture

I launched Designclature, a mobile app development firm. It was a partnership where my partner was looking into the technical aspect and I was looking into the business aspect of the company.

Cake Inc. – Merging my love for baking and being an entrepreneur

Over time I discovered I had a passion for baking. When the partnership was dissolved, I moved to Bangalore to complete a course in baking science and pastry art. On completing the course .I launched Cake Inc., a boutique bakery dealing with made to order, customized desserts and cakes.

Returning to school

While I enjoyed being an entrepreneur and working in the food industry, I always felt the desire to study further. I eventually returned to Rochester Institute of Technology in August 2018. I am currently in the process of completing my MBA with a concentration in Digital Marketing. Coming back to school after a 8 year gap was very challenging. However, I have been enjoying every minute of it.

Leopard Solutions – A summer co-op

I spent the summer of 2019 working with a legal database company (Leopard Solutions) in New York City. They are a company known to provide a recruiting tool to the legal industry. One of the biggest projects I got to work on was rebranding their products as not just a recruiting tool but also a market intelligence tool for a legal industry. To achieve this, I had to redesign their website, re-work their content, SEO and metadata so they show up on the desired searches. While I completed the designing of the website and content, the new website is still to be launched.

Moving forward

Marketing is an area that has always fascinated me. Armed with a MBA degree in Digital Marketing along with my past work experience, I hope to make a career in the creative side of Marketing – Advertisement, Product Launch, Brand Awareness, Social Media and other Online Marketing to name a few.

Raymond Zayas – Digital Marketing MBA Candidate at RIT

About Me

My name is Raymond Zayas, I am a Digital Marketing MBA candidate at RIT graduating May 2020. I currently hold a BS in Business/Organizational Management from Roberts Wesleyan College and a MS in Management: Product & Service Development from RIT. My goal is to transition from a career in financial and healthcare analysis to digital marketing and social media analytics.

I have been lucky to be exposed to various industries and gain insight into different career paths. After working for almost 3 years as a financial analyst in health care and advertising, building and distributing reports in Excel and in business intelligence software, I decided to take my career in a different direction. I realized that I had built up many of the translatable skills necessary to be successful in both careers, and through my experiences at RIT and speaking with individuals in the industry I found marketing and social media analytics far more fulfilling and interesting.

Outside the Classroom

Outside the classroom, I am a part-time photographer. I began my career as a hobbyist photographer focusing on landscape and architectural photography.

Montreal, Canada

As people began to notice my work in the community, I branched out to wedding and portrait photography.

While I find wedding and portrait photography extremely fun, my goal is to branch out to drone video and photography to be able to achieve shots that were previously unimaginable to the photographer community.

Sam Kadezabek – Digital Marketing MBA

Sam Kadezabek - Digital Marketing MBA Student focusing on color in company branding

My name’s Sam Kadezabek and I’m originally from a small town in Connecticut where the graduating class was around 100. Going into college, I switched my major from a more design-focused program to New Media Marketing to get a blend of business and creativity which ended up being a perfect middle ground for me. Now post-graduation I’m a grad student pursuing my MBA in Digital Marketing at Rochester Institute of Technology. I did my four years of undergrad at RIT as well and decided to continue on the path to getting my master’s to learn as much as I can before I leave.

I’ve realized that I really enjoy marketing and advertising because of the combination of creative and analytical applications and approaches that allow me to learn different ways people think and respond to experiences. For instance, one of my favorite classes in my undergrad was Consumer Behavior and analyzing the psychology of how people interact with products and advertisements. One specific aspect of that psychology that I found fascinating is how people’s brains react to different colors and combinations of colors around them.

The different ways that companies use those colors to subconsciously influence their customers is something that many don’t think about but is everywhere in our daily lives. During my undergrad I wrote a research paper on the different effects and examples of companies, and even entire industries, that use similar color schemes to give customers a certain feeling or reaction. While there isn’t a set formula you can use to make someone feel a certain way by using a certain color (because everyone is different and responds slightly differently), there are some pretty interesting trends in certain industries, like banking or fast food, that I took a look at.
