Delta Sigma Pi Initiation Day December 2017

I’m a 4th Year New Media Marketing student at the Rochester Institute of Technology with minors in Finance and Communication. I will be graduating in December 2018 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.

About Me

I am originally from Massena, New York, a small town neighboring the Canadian border. I now consider Rochester my home after moving here in the summer of 2014.  I’ve always thought it was wiser to move away from home and realize you want to move back, rather than to never leave at all. Outside the classroom, I am the president and co-captain of the RIT Roller Hockey club. I have been also a brother of a Business Fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, since freshman year. Throughout my years at RIT I have met some incredible people, been introduced to many new ideas, and grown into an aspiring business professional. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in college, I am becoming increasingly eager to see what opportunities lie ahead in the next chapter of my life.

Future Aspirations

When I first entered college, I had predominantly no idea what I wanted to accomplish in life. I now envision myself working in an environment where I will have the opportunity to surround myself with like-minded individuals to collaboratively get things done. I am still unsure which route I will take to get me there. As a result, I am exploring any and all opportunities that come my way.  Since, I have found a passion for marketing and sales. I love the person to person interactions that the two fields have to offer. I believe that building legitimate relationships with others is a key component of success in every facet of life. Eventually, I’d like to end up in the sports industry.

I am looking to expand my professional network. So please take the time to connect with me on LinkedIn and check out my resume. I have provided links to both below. If nothing else, do me a huge favor and simply click on each of the links below. It will help me a great deal with my Search Engine Marketing Analytics class.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.

Eboni Ellis

My name is Eboni, I study New Media Marketing and I love art! There is art in the way a wave crashes on

the sand or the way a meal is presented at a restaurant. You can say I’ve dedicated my life to the arts. I have bungee jumped in Mexico, jet skied in Aruba, and even cooked paella in Spain. I’ve been savvy with paint brushes and pencils for as long as I can remember. I consider myself to be very free spirited and open minded. So, when it came to picking a career for myself the choice was obvious! I was going to study… new media marketing.

Confused? Well let me explain. I believe marketing is a form of art. Anything that requires a level of creativity and innovation is art. Media Marketing done right has the ability to tap into people’s emotions, twist the way they think and move millions towards a common goal. If that’s not an art form I don’t know what is. Have you ever seen a n add the made you smile or a commercial that brought you dangerously close to tears? Well that is art… and art has always been a huge part of my life and by studying marketing I know it always will be.

I was able to apply the skill sets I learned into my work experience and have had huge impact on not only the company but the world! If you want to learn more about me and how I am doing my part to change the marketing world check out the links below!

My story – RIT New Media Marketing Student

In my time as an RIT new media marketing student I’ve done my best to get involved with a ton of the awesome opportunities here. Here’s a bit about the journey I’ve been on since I joined the RIT community.

The RIT Newsman

the_RIT_newsman_photo

What I love about RIT is the diverse array of amazing events, clubs, and people. I’d often find myself having an absolute blast at an RIT event that I didn’t even know was happening until I walked outside my dorm room.

I wanted to find a way to bottle up those amazing experiences, in order to share them with my friends and family.

I’ve also loved YouTube since I was a kid, and after learning the basics of video production in my high school’s Broadcast Journalism club, I enlisted my friend Oscar to help me create a weekly entertainment news series about RIT.

In Fall 2017 Oscar and I partnered the series with the RIT Office of Undergraduate Admissions. We currently produce the series to advertise RIT to prospective students.

It’s been really powerful to hear people talk about how our series helped them choose RIT as the right fit for them.

You can check out The RIT Newsman here!

Afterbox

In my third year as an RIT new media marketing student, after seeing the success of the RIT Newsman series, I became obsessed with how markets either embrace or reject new products and services. The success of a company is largely determined by how that company is perceived by the public.

I also became close friends with Zack Banack, a fellow student in the Saunders College of Business. Zack started at RIT as a computer security major, and had a lot of experience working for large companies doing freelance game design and development.

Zack and I developed an idea he was working on for a mobile application that facilitated the legacy preservation process that happens when an individual dies. We designed the app to help users store their best thoughts and memories, and send them to their friends and family when the user passes away.

Afterbox was featured on the Apple Music show Planet Of The Apps in Season 1, Episode 9. From that experience, in 2017 Zack and I were offered the opportunity to be apart of the Lightspeed Venture Partners Summer Fellowship program in Palo Alto, California. Here we learned the ins and outs of what it takes to make a startup successful.

Backstory

Elementary School

Christian was born and raised in Farmingville, New York which is on Long Island. He has always been one to experience new things and explore his interests. From a young age, Christian participated in gymnastics, baseball, and basketball, but he always had a place for arts and crafts. When it came to his fifth grade yearbook, he wrote that he’d love to be a cartoonist when he grew up because he could create anything and shape an entire world of his own. He also learned at the end of elementary school that he had a knack for singing and wanted to pursue it further in middle school.

Middle School

Although he was intending to focus more on music, Christian also played football leading into middle school, however,  he didn’t enjoy it as much as he thought he might and left. When school started, Christian did what he intended to do and pursued singing throughout middle school. He joined choir and the school drama club. In his first year, Christian managed to get a solo in the show. As everyone may realize, middle school is a weird place and Christian’s “social circle” began to be established. By the end of middle school, his voice was going through a quick change and his singing was affected. He had a solo for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), but did so poorly due to frequent register changes that he was never given a score. In high school, Christian had no interest in further pursuing music.

High School

In high school, he participated in FIRST Robotics for his freshman and sophomore year, but he realized that the organization at his school had politics that he was not interested in. He quit, got a crazy haircut, changed his style and joined track. In junior year, he was in cross country, swimming, track, student government, chess club, model united nations, and strategy and tactics club. He began to hangout less with the same people and more with new people. This allowed him to gather many social perspectives and relate more to many people. When he was meeting many new people, he came to the realization he wanted to be an engineer. To be more exact, he wanted to be an aviation and aerospace mechanical engineer. He then questioned this idea his senior year when his interest in arts and music reemerged.

Today

When Christian got to RIT, he was already contemplating his major as Engineering Exploration, but he was uncertain as to what he’ll change to. After his first semester of exploring, he switched to Marketing. He learned so much about business that he was unaware of before and it interested him. He loved strategies, business plans, economics, and even accounting interested him. Overtime, he came to the conclusion he wanted to switch to New Media Marketing. Then, since the curriculum taught very little about resources and pricing, he chose to double major in Economics. With those, he can gather a deep understanding of resources and people while he works on his start-up: Canopy.

Matthew Missert

Introduction:
Hi! the name’s Matt. I’m 4th year undergrad student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I’m finishing up my degree in New Media Marketing (fancy title for marketing with a technical focus) paired with a dual minor in International Business and Communications.
I’ve spent time working in the B2B field, but most of my education has centered around the consumer market. With the work I’ve done through RIT these past 4 years, I’m aiming towards working in the international marketing industry, working to introduce products and experiences to new emerging markets around the globe. (or across the world, if you know… flat earth and all.)

I was born in Buffalo NY and briefly lived in Hamburg NY before moving to Laconia New Hampshire around 2001. I came to RIT largely for the co-op program.
Growing up in New Hampshire, I’ve adopted a strong passion for being outdoors. You can find me hiking and fishing in the summer and snowboarding or skating in the winter.

My Future:

I’ve been struggling with answering the “what are your plans after graduation” question for some time now and to be honest I still don’t know what I want to do. I plan on moving back to New England, closer to Boston in order to join the professional world, but at the same time I’m drawn to the idea of packing a bag and traveling as much as I can before my student loan payments start to kick in.

I’m on all social media platforms, and have my own website too!

About

I am a content marketer and brand strategist graduating with a degree in Digital Marketing from Rochester Institute of Technology in May 2018. A balanced left and right-brain thinker, I am constantly testing, learning and optimizing, all while applying a refined creative edge.

As a content marketer, I am a proactive agent in the areas of search engine marketing, social media, branding, content strategy, and paid advertising, I consistently stay on top of trends in the world of content marketing with an intense personal interest in food and fashion culture.

I excel at writing compelling stories, employing empathy to understand audiences, and have a penchant for all things analytical. I am adept at leading, executing and tracking the performance of demand generation campaigns across various social platforms.

Story

Hailing from Philly, I was raised by a kind, hardworking German father and a no-nonsense, but incredibly selfless, Chinese mother from who I’ve absorbed both a driven and empathic mindset.

My focus as a professional, and as a person, stems from my love of community. If I’ve learned anything throughout my college career and work experience, it’s that one must be relentless and in constant pursuit of improvement, all while continually learning and growing. In this vein, I’ve taken on freelance work as a content marketer, becoming ingrained in the surrounding community and extending what I’ve learned in the classroom into the real world.

As the Program Director for WITR 89.7, an FM radio station serving the greater Rochester area, I work alongside a team of multi-talented DJs and producers to bring lesser known music to the community.

WITR 89.7 Apple Picking
Just some radio kids apple picking.

Most recently, I’ve been assisting AVVINO, a local, high-end, contemporary restaurant with their marketing, web presence and social media, redesigning their website and converting web traffic into dinner reservations. This was a business I loved from the first water glass I filled, to the last table I wiped down. I feel fortunate that I can apply my knowledge as a digital marketer to positively impact the lives of everyone working there.

Avvino
Avvino!

To find work in a setting that promotes constant collaboration and open communication is a goal of mine. In a place like that, I can focus on growing and leading. I can work harder, better, and feel good about it.

I am always on the lookout for additional freelance opportunities to help grow small businesses, individual brands, and everything in between.

I’m currently on the job hunt, searching for a full-time digital marketing position.

Meet Emily Bliss

Hi there! My name is Emily and I’m almost (thankfully) done with my M.B.A. at RIT after beginning in the fall of 2015. I’m the Content Marketing Manager at Tipping Point Communications, a local Rochester-based marketing communications agency.

Emily Bliss Headshot

I am responsible for strategic planning and execution of content strategies for clients. In addition, I develop strategic inbound marketing plans leveraging marketing automation and content to fuel my client’s lead generation activities, with strategic focus at each stage of the sales funnel.

Prior to joining Tipping Point Communications, I spent two years at CHOBANI Greek Yogurt, in the marketing department, executing special events in the Upstate New York region. During my time at CHOBANI, I focused on community relations, brand partnerships, and worked locally on the 2012 London Summer Olympics sponsorship.

I look forward to utilizing my M.B.A to provide a macro-level, strategic frame of reference to grow my client’s business and the overall agency.

Cheers!
