Hello! My Name is Brooke Stoddart, I am currently in my fourth year majoring New Media Marketing with a minor is Exercise Science.
While attending school I also am a goaltender on the RIT Women’s Hockey Team. Being a student athlete at the Division I level has been a goal of mine since I was 8 years old, being able to live out that dream has been an experience I will never forget. As a student athlete one learns the of skill time manage very quickly, balancing being on the road, homework/studying when a 6-hour chunk out of your day is taken up on video session, workouts and practice is not an easy feat.
In the past our team has had some success winning back-to-back championships in the College Hockey America Conference. After our 2nd year in the conference and our first year of eligible our team advanced to the NCAA tournament making it to the Elite Eight, all of this accomplished in the first 5 years being granted Division I status. If you’d like to stay updated with the latest news regarding the team feel free to visit the RIT Women’s Hockey Page.
Balancing school, hockey and a social life has been interesting and an experience that I would not change for the world. It is helped me grow as a person and provided me with some life lesson that will be very beneficial in the future as I begin my new path in life.
I have been very fortunate to work for Key Mortgage Partners an extremely successful mortgage brokerage company where I was able to implement a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Working with this successful company allowed me to experience what a top company expects from its employees and the importance of their clientele. Therefore making a friendly but informational presence on social media was a must.
I have also been fortunate to have a summer co-op with the Barrie Colts Hockey Team who is apart of the Ontario Hockey League. This was also a great experience in a field that I loved, as I was able to work with a hockey team behind the scenes designing social media campaigns, developing special game night events, and creating content for social media. Being able to still be apart of a hockey team may it be from a different position allowed me use my passion for the game along with my knowledge from my degree really helped me thrive in this position.
